Hi all! From 1958 to 1959, writer Robert Heinlein published the science fiction novel Starship Troopers, which takes place in the future, when earthlings have already begun to explore outer space. One day, a bloody war begins between them and the alien race of arachnids. Beetles destroy terrestrial cities with meteorites, and in response to this, people form star fleets and land paratroopers on enemy planets.
Due to its special narrative, the novel gained high popularity. Even the power armor introduced in the story in the future has become one of the main components in the science fiction genre.
In 1997, the film Starship Troopers was released, directed by Paul Verhoeven, who decided to convey the essence of the book differently, which led to significant misunderstanding among the fan community. The next attempt to adapt the novel, and indeed the film itself, was the game Starship Troopers: Terran Ascendancy, released on October 28, 2000. And it is about her that the further story will be told.
Weapons and units
What is this game?. It is a real-time strategy game consisting of 20 missions divided into three story acts. The player is given control of an officer of one of the Starship Troopers units. At first he controls a squad of 11 people, but as the game progresses, this number will increase to 20.
You set a name for your https://mindepositcasino.co.uk/minimum-deposit-1-pound-casino/ officer, select an avatar and one of the squad names that were taken from the source. Next, they show the planet on which the action will take place, and indicate a description of current world events. The Commander-in-Chief then gives a voice briefing, during which the upcoming mission objectives are explained.
After all this, the player can form a squad of recruits and equip them with the appropriate ammunition. And here you will immediately freeze for a while. The arsenal consists of 12 guns, which become available almost immediately after the third mission. Several types of grenade launchers, a shotgun, a flamethrower, various rifles and even a gun for catching – all this can be useful depending on the current situation.
An ordinary soldier can be armed with only one weapon, but there are also special power loadouts that allow you to take with you another deadly device. In total, there are 6 types of additional devices, including grenades, first aid kits, sights, etc. As a result, it turns out that ideally your ward can take two weapons and two special items into battle.
After successfully completing an episode, it is sometimes possible to upgrade weapons. Depending on the power of the device, the cost of the upgrade is built. Therefore, it all depends on your preferences: upgrade two simple weapons or one powerful one.
The more beetles a soldier kills, the faster he gains experience points, which are automatically used to increase his rank. His characteristics increase, medals appear in his service record, and most importantly, power armor will become available. Naturally, recruits must deserve to wear at least the lowest armored suit, because in the world of Starship Troopers, infantrymen are real consumables, and the game tried to preserve this feature.
There are three types of power armor: "scout", "marauder" and "commander". In turn, armor comes in three classes: from the weakly protected third to the first, which is a mobile fortress. Each of them has its own auxiliary functions.
The Scout is equipped with a drone with a camera, which is very helpful for exploring the upcoming route. The Marauder is equipped with a small missile system and a jetpack, which makes it an excellent saboteur. Well, the “commander” is capable of generating a powerful shield that can withstand an airstrike over a large area.
However, the developers decided to introduce some restrictions so as not to create a machine out of the squad for the annihilation of everything. Since the armor is tailored to the rank of a soldier, a squad cannot contain, for example, more than 3 sergeants. When they promote to lieutenants 1st-3rd classes, corporals will be able to ascend to their place. If everything is already occupied, then the soldiers simply will not rise in rank.
It is worth noting that these restrictions are not particularly noticeable, since the squad will often suffer losses, and therefore, the cycle from recruits to officers will continue almost until the end of the final mission.
